The Rick Gauci Story

Although Rick Gauci Racing has only been actively drag racing since 2005, Rick has been associated with Drag Racing from four years old. At that time his family moved to Hinxman Road at Castlereagh, three houses down from the boom gates of Castlereagh International Dragway. His cousins, John and Tony (horse and bear), crewed for Ben and Joe Gatt, and at a young age they would put Rick in the car and drive him up the hill to 'play drag cars' until they tossed him out of the car at 1 or 2 in the morning, because at that time Castlereagh kept racing until the meet was finished. Rick used to charge people to park their car on their five acre property when there was no parking left at the track or on the street. Someone always got bogged in front of the house, Yeah, the Castlereagh days.

The sport Rick was born into was Harness Racing. He was training horses for as long as he can remember and started driving at 16 years old, (minimum age to drive at that time). Rick was training and driving winners until the Government and politics took over the sport. At that time he decided to switch to a different type of horsepower. Eastern Creek had been closed, so he built a blown 1934 Ford Coupe, which made Top 20 at the Summer Nat's (Canberra).

When Western Sydney International Dragway opened Rick decided to follow a dream he'd had since Castlereagh days. He brought a HQ roller from SA and pieced it together with help from Wayne Newby. They ran Supercharged Outlaws for two seasons, before the go faster bug couldn't be contained anymore. That led to some wild rides in his first funny car before he realized to play with the best you need to have the best. That's how the new car came about and his Group One racing career started.....
